Sequence Painting...
is an approach to painting for both the non-artist and experienced artist alike. Open up and allow the creativity to flow, then experience joy. Suspend thought and judgement temporarily, living in the NOW. There is no need to know the outcome, let it come naturally. Mary has been trained to teach this approach which was developed by the RGS, Brattleboro, VT.
Bypassing traditional painting techniques, Sequence Painting focuses on using your hands and eyes to move in harmony. Using oil paints, wax, and small card stock/paper, creativity surfaces as one immerses into their art making. One can sidestep disruptive feelings of inadequacy or uncertainty. Preparing the paper, selecting colors, and using fingers instead of a brush, the artist will create a seascape by focusing on its metaphor, color, light, the horizon, and the physical encounter with the paint. It's a great experience to deepen your connection with the joyful process of creating art.
"We return to the senses (vision), coupled with action (our hands moving), to paint; our hands and eyes are literally interacting with each other."
— Ric Campman, Founder RGS

I recently had the pleasure of attending the sequence painting class hosted by Mary. Not knowing exactly what to expect & not feeling totally confident in my own artistic abilities, I was a little apprehensive at first. However, after just a few minutes of Mary's calm guidance & encouragement, I realized I was in a supportive environment, free of judgement. There is no right or wrong in terms of technique or final project. The artistic process itself is not at all difficult, but through the process I learned to challenge myself & go outside my own comfort zone. I ended up loving the pieces that I made & am planning on framing & hanging them in my home. I wasn't expecting to get so much out of a single 3 hour class, but I left there feeling so light & excited about what I had created. I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking for a unique creative experience and/or in need of a gentle reminder of the benefits of self care & letting go of inhibitions.

The Sequence Painting class was a wonderful experience. Having the process be more important than the product gave me a feeling of freedom. I was able to enjoy the colors and the light. Mary is calm and supportive; providing a peaceful and fun atmosphere. – Jaci
As someone who deals with anxiety on a daily basis, I found the Sequence Painting exercise fun, relaxing, and great practice in learning how to let go. Initially, I wanted to "do a good job" but loosened up as I remembered Mary's calming words about allowing yourself to play around and see what becomes of your painting. Afterwards, I loved looking at what each person created as it showed their unique perspectives.

After Mary explained the technique of Sequence Painting I began to understand this process is more about the journey not the destination. I had never heard of these techniques and was surprised with the simple tools used and the beautiful outcomes. The process sets your mind at ease and pulls out the creative side in you. There is no right or wrong, and as thoughts that you can’t do it pop into your head, the process allows time for that to be addressed so you can work through it and continue. This is not a “learn how to paint” workshop, it’s a method to allow yourself to acknowledge your creative side, especially if you don’t think you have one. You go at your own pace and create as many works of art as time allows. I managed to create 4 Sequences, while others had more. You could also end up with less. The beauty is, you’re in control at all times and decide when your Sequence is complete. and each Sequence is unique. I would recommend the Sequence Painting workshop to anyone who has doubts about their creative side, anyone who is artistic or crafty looking for something new, and anyone who would like to experience an enjoyable time with friends. I can’t wait to take this workshop again and allow myself to be emerged even more. Thanks Mary for a wonderful time!

"I was always the kind of person who said I wasn't artistic. I definitely couldn't paint anything worth hanging or showing to anyone. I won't be saying that anymore. I love the sequences I painted and can't wait to do this workshop again. Mary showed us how you can frame your sequences but also how you can make cards out of them. So now I have to pick which I love best to frame and which ones will be cards. The best part of attending this workshop is how your mind just goes to your painting and lets everything else go away. This was a very relaxing afternoon that resulted in some amazing colorful artwork that I didn't realize I was capable of creating. Can't wait for all of my friends to attend one of these workshops."

" I loved my experience with Sequence Painting; first I was concerned about doing it right, then I realized there was no right. It was so much fun to get out of my mind and let my fingers have a voice. Being in the NOW and letting my creativity take over was so freeing. I can’t wait to do it again. Mary’s unique ability as a coach helped my critical-self "let go" and make way for the hidden creative self. I believe quality coaching does help us find those hidden parts of ourselves." -Myrna Baye
